BlackBerry investments more fund for its Partners $150M

BlackBerry Partners Fund, a fund focused mobile platform agnostic with support from Research in Motion, Thompson Reuters, and others, is being followed by a second $ 150 million fund that aims to double in mobile opportunities. With the new money, a new image of the ATP Capital, which managed the BlackBerry Partners Fund: The new entity will be called Business Link and will operate out of Toronto and Silicon Valley.

The new fund provides $ 150 million Ventures, relay much more money to make investments in mobile computing. The company seeks to fund all types of mobile early stage start-ups and has already funded 32 mobile phone companies to date, including Appcelerator, Xobni, Payfone and local response of the previous $ 150 million BlackBerry Partners Fund, launched in 2008. Previous attempts include buzzd, Pub Nub, Nexage and Pocket Gear.

Kevin Talbot, co-managing partner of Business Link, said the fund, which continues to license the name of the RIM BlackBerry, the funding will not only software, but companies that increase their 3G, 4G, sensors, and the cloud to create mobile products works independently of operating systems and devices. He said the possibility of cell phone only grows in real time, Web access through smart phones and tablets.

Increasing focus on mobile relay puts it among the largest investors in mobile and wireless start-ups. Ridgecrest Capital Partners relay counts as the third largest investor in mobile telephony as more companies invest in the last three years, second only to Sequoia and Intel Capital. Ridgecrest below do not include allowances and investments of less than $ 2 million.

I would expect to see more of these funds centric mobile and venture capital firms is. Kleiner Perkins has launched its own $ 200 million IFUND backup applications, services and components for IOS devices. DCM announced a fund of last year to help companies focus on Android. The world is going increasingly mobile and continue to realize the opportunity in smart phones and tablets.
